Strengths-Based and Solutions Focused
At MPC, we practice a strengths-based and solution-focused form of counseling. Strengths-based counseling seeks to empower the individual to build on the resilience that they already have. Solution-focused approaches are generally rooted in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and take a present day look at real world challenges the client is facing. Together, these approaches can be used to create new and lasting ways to cope with challenges from stress, depression, anxiety and trauma. The theory behind taking a strengths-based approach is to draw out and expand core elements of healthy coping and apply them to more problematic areas in the client’s life. With Solutions-Focused Therapy (SFT), the therapist partners with the client to define and achieve goals that are meaningful and will produce lasting benefits. This practice can help the client not only achieve current goals, but lay the foundation for a solution-focused mindset to find solutions to future challenges as they arise. |
